Spyfall

Everyone is told the same secret location — except one player, who is the Spy. Players ask each other probing questions to root out who doesn't know where they are, while the Spy desperately tries to figure out the location before being caught. A masterclass in saying just enough without saying too much.

How to Play

  1. 1

Prepare cards or slips of paper. All but one player receive a slip showing the same location (e.g. 'The Submarine') along with a role (e.g. 'Cook'). One player receives a slip that just says 'Spy'.

  2. 2

Players take turns asking each other one question about the location — questions must be answerable by someone at that location without being too obvious (e.g. 'Is it usually noisy here?').

  3. 3

The Spy listens carefully to all answers, trying to deduce the location without revealing they don't know it.

  4. 4

Players who know the location try to phrase questions that sound natural to an insider but would confuse an outsider.

  5. 5

At any point, any player can call a vote to accuse someone of being the Spy. If the majority agrees, the accused is revealed. If they are the Spy, the group wins. If not, the group loses.

  6. 6

The Spy also wins by correctly naming the location before being caught. Play multiple rounds rotating the Spy role.
